Life List Update: #51 The one I didn’t dare admit to

December 17, 2011

in Life,Life List

Well, that was an interesting week! I’ve been busy with personal things — all related to Christmas, as it were — so I knew this would be a light blogging week. And then Wednesday came along, and I was honored by Disney’s Babble.com as one of their choices for the top #100 Mom Blogs of 2011.

I mean, what?

(I’m #45. Go see the nice things they said about this blog and what I’m trying to do here. They get it!)

And then, I got an email from the New York Times (I KNOW) wanting to know my reaction to this article on people who bring store bought cookies to bake sales.

The original article was in the dining section, so I knew where the writer was coming from — I’m a home cook myself — but I wasn’t about to waste an opportunity to talk about something that has been bothering me for a while, namely the inefficiencies of school fundraisers. So in the couple of hours I had between school pickup and the deadline I wrote my thoughts and sent them in.

Before I knew it I was in the room for debate section of nytimes.com along with other writers I know and admire (and a few new ones!).

You guys. Writing an editorial for the New York Times is a long-held dream of mine. My life list full of crazy dreams is online, but one thing I never added was to write something that would be published in the New York Times opinion pages. With my photo, and a byline, and a link to my bio and personal blogs.

I mean, that’s crazy.

But you know what’s crazier?

Having your opinion on baked goods and economics posted on the New York Times website. And it’s happened.

We Need Modern Fundraisers for Modern Problems

You bet I added it to my list (#51) and scratched it off immediately. It should have been there all along.

Time to add more crazy dreams.
